Description

This extremely rare and well-preserved Battaglin from the mid-80s is one of the highest quality bikes from the collection. The almost flawless Columbus SLX frame in beautiful chromovelato blue is adorned with an almost new condition Campagnolo 50th anniversary groupset.

Giovanni Battaglin is a very well-known cyclist who achieved third place in his first Giro d’Italia. Back then, he was the only one in the eighth stage who was able to follow an attack of the legend Eddy Merckx. After much misfortune due to breakdowns and illnesses, he finally won the 1981 Vuelta a España and the Giro d’Italia. In 1984 he ended his cycling career and founded the racing bike brand Battaglin Cicli, which still produces steel frames today - also in Cromovelato. He made his breakthrough with his brand in 1987 when Stephen Roche was the second rider to win the 3 biggest and most important titles on a Battaglin in one year: the Tour de France, the Giro d’Italia and the road cycling world championship. Previously, only Eddy Merckx succeeded ...

The bike is equipped with Campagnolo's limited anniversary group from 1983, which is strongly reminiscent of the super record group at that time. In contrast to the normal super record group, most parts have 24K gold details and all imaginable screws and axles are made of titanium. Also new are the sprockets, which is also made of titanium. The whole groupset was sold in a black suitcase and each owner was allowed to register for their own membership card.

The special blue shimmering lacquer is called Cromovelato - that's the name of a completely chrome-plated frame which has been coated with a sheer layer of translucent lacquer. This gives this surface its special shine.

The frameset has a chromed fork, a chrome-plated rear, beautifully polished and painted lugs and a lot of beautiful engravings. The soldered Italian flag on the top tube and the marked Cinelli bottom bracket shell are particularly beautiful. The mint Cinelli 1A stem is also engraved to match the frame. In addition, a new leather handlebar tape as well as a NOS Concor saddle and set of NOS Vittoria tires are installed. The parts not only fit very well in terms of time, but are also color-coordinated.

The racing bike was disassembled, cleaned, lubricated and reassembled. Therefore, it is technically and optically in excellent condition.
