Description

This masi is well as the most desirable and well-known bikes on the market. It is a Masi Gran Criterium from 1974, which was manufactured in Milan.

After Faliero took part in a race like the Giro d'Italia in the 1930s, he was learned from cycling and hired by building high-quality racing bikes. It is said that he had a sixtieth sense and a man who was lovingly called the “tailor” (in German: carpenter) due to his craftsmanship. In the 1950s Masi manufactured frames for the legendary riders of the time in his company Cicli Masi, such as Eddy Merckx. Many professional cyclists rode for other teams even though the framework was done by Masi.

The Gran Criterium model was first introduced in 1970 and quickly became one of the most sought-after frames in the world. With his knowledge from numerous handcrafted professional frames, the Gran Criterium is arguably the pinnacle of Masi's craftsmanship.

The tubeset is at the most frame the from Masi built were unknown. Columbus SL steel and English Reynolds 531 tube or a mix of both manufacturers. Especially on this frame are the finely refined and thin sleeves, which were characteristic of Masi's frame construction.

The frame was repainted personally at Masi a few years ago (see last picture). A short while ago, it was rebuilt authentically with a mix of 70s record and super record components. These parts once also came from a Masi Gran Criterium and were therefore here and there still original yellow Masi color.

Some of the built-in parts such as the chainring, stem, handlebar or seat post are masi pantographed. Even the beautiful brown suede saddle is branded by Masi.
