Description

This rare Scapin road bike from 1986 bristles is a real piece of Italian craftsmanship. Not only the extravagant design but also the coloring with golden lettering on elegant bottle green cromovelato paint make this racing bike a very special collector's item ...

In 1957, the once professional cyclist Umberto Scapin founded his own Italian brand Scapin Cicli in Padova. In the mid-80s he decided to construct a new frame that should stand out from the crowd both technically and optically. With this realization of Italian craftsmanship, he more than succeeded.

The Scapin KS-25 got its rather special name from the special and just as rare KS-25 tubing set from Columbus. The frame is not only amazingly light and stiff, but also for its age, modern and minimalist. In addition to the thin-walled oversize tubes, the steel frame has specially manufactured lugs. The tubes being pushed over the lugs and soldered with silver solder - similar to the aluminum frames previously designed by Alan, Vitus or TVT. Therefore, this frame also requires a particularly narrow seatpost with 25mm diameter (after which the tube set was named). This diameter was also used for steel frames with Columbus MS tube sets. Next to the design, the geometry is also unique, as the top tube was designed to be minimally sloping. All cables, including the shift cables, are laid inside. Back then, it was not only time-consuming but should also improve aerodynamics.

The paint, which shimmers especially in bottle green, is called Cromovelato - that's the name of a completely chrome-plated frame which has been painted with a sheer, translucent layer of paint. This gives this surface its special shine.

The racing bike is equipped with a complete C-Record group of the first generation from 1985. Part of this group is probably the most beautiful crank with engraved instead of etched logo, the second generation of the beautiful delta brakes and the aesthetic and elegant rear derailleur with the closed cage. Only high-quality attachments such as a NOS Rolls saddle, a Cinelli cockpit sewn in leather and wheels with Mavic clincher rims were installed.
